Research projects

The Foundation supports scientific research in all areas of environmental protection. The projects funded by the Foundation represent different areas of environmental protection such as research on the impact of environmental loading on the atmosphere, water environment and soil ecosystem, research and development in environmental technology, and research on environmental management, legislation and policy.
In the 1980s the emphasis was on advancing atmospheric research, whereas in the 1990s the emphasis was on biodiversity, bioremediation, cyanobacteria and Baltic Sea. During years 2003 - 2004, the emphasis area was innovative and interdisciplinary research targeted at solving the environmental problems of urban areas. For year 2007 grants the Foundation encouraged researchers to form multidisciplinary consortia projects consisting of two or more research groups.
